Legislative Report

🧵 HAPPENING TODAY- The Legislative Office of Fiscal Transparency released its report on Department of Corrections operations.  The LOFT committee meets at 3pm at the capitol to go over the findings.

Some key budget findings from LOFT:

-DOC could have saved $56m over last 2 years

-DOC has $26.2m in funding for 754 vacant positions

-Report cites “lack of transparency” in DOC’s budgeting process

-$26m could have been saved by targeting recent raises to key, critics positions. The first part worked. We’ve seen a 17% drop in inmates since then. And Yet, during the same time, ODOC is spending more money. Not less. State allocation this year was $544.3 million. And so far, the legislature has never allocated any money at the 781 fund, as voters demanded.
